This is a 17th century italian frame with carved ornament, black lacquer and eglomise surface. Eglomise is a centuries-old technique of applying paint and gilding to the reverse side of glass.

Small glass panels have been embedded into the wooden substrate of this frame. Each glass panel has been painted underneath with swirling waves of multiple colors, creating a rich textural design around the frame.
