“The frame is the Cinderella of the art world,” Salazar says in describing the hundreds hanging, rectangular examples he display in his gallery. But he knows his passion is certainly not mainstream. “It’s a stepson – something that before no-one cared about – but they do now. People used to change frames or throw them away. This is all changing.” Surrounded by all the evidence he needs to qualify that remark – frames of every shape, size and age hang above and around his gallery – some sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. “They [the public] used to look at frames like furniture,” he continues, “but they are learning.”
